"Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don't stand back and let them die. Don't try to disclaim responsibility by saying you didn't know about it. For God, who knows all hearts, knows yours, and he knows you knew! And he will reward everyone according to his deeds." (Prov. 24:11-12, TLB)

Champions for Life

The North American Mission Board and the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission are working together to develop a national database of Southern Baptist churches and individuals who are doing something for the "Cause of Life."

This database will help us facilitate dialog and tell your stories to Southern Baptists and others. If you or your church are involved in a Pregnancy Care Center, or other ministry devoted to helping those affected by abortion decisions, we would like to know what you are doing:
  • Do you sponsor a center
  • Are you a volunteer
  • Do you provide money
  • Baby clothes for the center
  • Are you involved in some other way?
Please add your name and your church’s name to our list of Champions for Life.

The objective of the North American Mission Board's Alternatives For Life Ministries is to assist churches, associations, and state conventions in providing ministries to:
  • women of all ages who are facing crisis pregnancies
  • women who have experienced abortion
  • men whose children have been aborted
  • children and young people who are forming their morals and values
  • people who need to be educated and motivated to get involved in long-term, positive actions concerning abortion.

Other resource opportunities available include motivational and educational speakers.

Why an Alternatives For Life site?

In the United States, one pregnancy in three ends in abortion.

Click for Full ImageThe U.S. Supreme Court, through two rulings in 1973, declared it legal to abort a baby for any reason through the ninth month of pregnancy. The number of reported abortions since 1973 equals the popluation of 16 Western states.

Click for Full ImageOne baby is aborted every 20 seconds; 1.5 million every year. The total number since 1973 is staggering. All American war-related casualties combined do not come close to the mass murder of the war on the unborn.

What Can I Do?

Options any Christian and every church can use

Many women who have had abortions are in our Southern Baptist churches. Women considering abortion and those who have experienced it are in need of God's love and a demonstration of nonjudgmental love through His church. Some argue, "A woman has the right to choose." A woman has the right to be educated and counseled on the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual aspects of all her choices. She is the only one who can make the decision. She will live with that decision the rest of her life.
