The
North American Mission Board and Children's Evangelism Philosophy
Children can possess the faith necessary for salvation.
The gospel is for everyone. "For, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be
saved,'" (Romans 10:13).
God's desire is for children to be saved. "In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of the little ones should be
lost," (Matthew 18:14).
Jesus taught that children could be saved. "But if anyone causes one of the little ones who believe in me to sin . .
." (Matthew 18:6).
There is no standard biblical age when an individual can believe.
God chooses when to speak to an individual, but parents and teachers can prepare children to hear by creating an environment that introduces them to God and His love.
"And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ
Jesus," (2 Timothy 3:15). Although we do not know when Timothy received Jesus, we know his family started teaching him early in life. According to 2 Timothy 3:15, Timothy was taught about God and His love from infancy.
True salvation is built soundly upon Scripture.
Scripture is the catalyst that gives the Holy Spirit the freedom to spiritually awaken a person and then bring conviction in his life. When true conviction comes, the individual is then faced with the decision of either accepting or rejecting the offer of salvation through Jesus.
"An how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ
Jesus," (2 Timothy 3:15). "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of
Christ," (Romans 10:17).
