Creative
If all people are to be reached with the gospel, the
gospel must be taken into America’s marketplaces in
creative and innovative ways. The Special Ministries
Unit develops new approaches to a variety of
nontraditional lifestyle groups and special interest
groups. The unit encourages church leaders to take the
church to these people by conducting one-on-one
witnessing and establishing congregational expressions
in unusual settings.
Creative Arts
– The arts had their beginning in the church. Today
music, drama, mimes, puppets, clowning, and other
creative arts activities can be used to reach people
with the timeless message of the gospel. Their use can
and should be employed both inside and outside the
church. Promotion and use of creative arts is part of
the Special Ministries Unit emphasis.
Special Events
– Hundreds of special events are held each year.
Church groups carry out witnessing and ministry
activities at functions such as:
- World/state/county/craft
fairs
- Sporting
events/Olympics
- Parades
- Marketplace
festivals
- Historic
celebrations
- Trade shows
- Boat races and
regattas
- Spring breaks at
beaches
I. CREATIVE ARTS
MINISTRIES
A. Creative Arts
Ministries Mission Statement: To evangelize and minister
to people through creative arts ministries. Creative
arts are defined as music, drama, interpretive movement,
puppetry, clowning, mime, balloon sculpturing, face
painting and other creative arts activities designed as
a tool for reaching people with the gospel. Training
missionaries, laypeople and volunteers to use the arts
in ministry evangelism in their own communities is an
important part of this work.
II. SPECIAL EVENTS
MINISTRIES
A. Special Events
Ministries Mission Statement: To evangelize and minister
to people through community-based events and large
state/national/international events. There is relatively
no community in North America which does not sponsor at
least one community-based event (fair, festival, parade,
etc.) or large event (sporting, state/county fair, etc.)
during their calendar year. Unfortunately the days are
gone when our society revolves around church attendance.
We have many attractions pulling from all directions. If
we have a "stay in the four-walls" of the
church mentality, we will be missing out on being an
"on mission" Christian. Thus, it behooves us
as Christians and as Baptists to make our presence known
in our communities through these events. Since most
people are not willing to come through our church doors,
we must be willing to take to gospel to where they live,
work, and play. What better way, than through Special
Events Ministries!
1) Community-Based
Events: Fairs, festivals, parades, historical
celebrations, trade shows, boat races, and sporting
events.
2) Large Events:
World’s Fairs, Olympics, World/National sporting
events, and state/county fairs.
