THE ON MISSION CHURCH NETWORK YOUTH MINISTRY

Special Events for Youth

  • Remember, informal is often better than formal for youth. Have a snack supper featuring a missionary guest. Serve an easy meal, like pizza, a taco buffet, 50-foot submarine sandwich, or fast-food feast featuring several different selections. Following the snack supper, the guest missionary could share a personal testimony, perhaps particularly emphasizing his or her call to missions.

  • Plan a worship experience outside of the church. For example, during the regular time for an evening service, a guest missionary or local service or charity professional/volunteer could lead the youth to serve in a soup kitchen, homeless shelter, or food pantry, visit a nursing home or assisted living center, or help in a crisis pregnancy center. Your local association might have other ideas about where youth could experience missions firsthand. After the youth and missionary/guest have ministered to others, there could be a short time of testimony and praise.

  • Lead youth to put together "care packages" in response to specific needs cited by a missionary, your local association, local charity/service organizations.

On-Mission Youth Strategies

A mission education strategy is a church-based plan to reach one of the nine fields of lost people and transform participants by teaching missionary skills and leading them into an on-mission lifestyle. It includes a personal commitment to Christ, an awareness, understanding, and an accountable commitment to reach lost people in the strategic field within a specified time period. It requires resources, leaders/mentors, evaluation, and advocation. Tools to support strategies include projects, products, and training.

Purpose-Filled, Mission-Skilled—Youth Resource Kit
Today’s Christian youth are searching for purpose. They are looking for ways to "plug in" to their church’s global mission and make their lives count for eternity. They have the head knowledge and the heart knowledge but sometimes lack the skills and understandings necessary to make that vision a reality. Through this study, youth will discover what it means to be an on mission Christian who realizes his primary purpose is to fulfill God’s mission. Youth will be introduced to skills, strategies, and applications of the on mission lifestyle, and will ultimately be led to commit to and engage in relevant on mission applications. Materials include a teaching guide, video-tape, activity sheets, and one copy of the participant’s self-study workbook.
