Karl presently serves as Team Leader of the Cooperative Strategies Team. This Team includes two sections, the Strategy Coordination section and the Church Finance Ministry section. The Strategy Coordination section is composed of 6 Regional Team Leaders that work with 42 Southern Baptist Convention Partners. This includes all of the U.S. State Conventions, the Convention of Southern Baptist Churches of Puerto Rico, and the Canadian National Baptist Convention. They are engaged in developing a cooperative strategy and budget for assisting churches reaching North America with the gospel. The Cooperative Budget allows the North American Mission Board and the Convention Partners to work together in funding personnel and projects which are critical to effective evangelization, church planting, and sending missionaries. This Church Finance Ministry is involved in providing financial guidance and resources to SBC churches. This team of nine professionals will consult and provide resources to over 500 churches in the U.S., U.S. Territories, and Canada each year. Part of the resources provided include church loans which currently total over $150,000,000.00.
The church lending aspect of this ministry has been in continuous operation since 1900, and the income, produced by the loans, are used to support the ongoing ministries of NAMB. In fact, the majority of every dollar paid in interest on a church loan goes back to support Missions!
Karl joined the Church Finance Ministry in May 1998. Previously, he served as a Senior Vice President/Group Manager for Comerica Bank-Texas, NA. His nineteen years in the banking industry were involved in commercial and commercial real estate lending for several leading Texas Banks. He also formally managed Branch Banks in South Texas.
Karl was born in Ft. Worth, Texas in June 1958 and was "born again" in March 1971. He has served in churches in Texas and Georgia as a Teacher, and was an active Deacon in two Texas churches. He also was elected as a Trustee in 1990 to the former Home Mission Board, SBC and served eight years with it and its successor, NAMB. Prior to his departure from the Trustee Board, he served on the Executive Committee and chaired one of the Trustee Committees. It was through this experience that Karl realized God's call to leave his banking career and go into ministry with NAMB.
Karl loves his "Texas roots" but has acclimated well to his North Georgia home. He and his wife, Pat have four children, one of which is married with three beautiful grandchildren!
