Shawn Powers provides leadership to the North American Mission Board's Region 3. The North American Mission Board is the largest protestant missionary organization operating in the United States, Canada and their territories. Powers provides leadership to NAMB strategies and coordinates partnership activities in the Sending of Missionaries, Sharing Christ and Starting Churches; which include responsibilities for relationship development, oversight of Cooperative Agreements, negotiation and management of Strategic Mission Plans and partnership budgets as well as the creation and placement of jointly funded missionaries. Powers works alongside partners to resource conventions, local associations, networks and the more than 15,000 constituent churches in Region 3.
Powers previously served seven years with the mission board as a Senior Church Consultant providing customized consultation, resource solutions and strategy development to more than 1,000 local ministries in the US and Canada.
Powers has written for national publications and has authored content for print and web-based resources. He frequently represents the mission board at conferences, training events, partnership and local association meetings.
Originally from Connecticut, Powers made his profession of faith while living in Gaithersburg, MD. He was licensed to the ministry in 1989 by a leading church in Arlington, TX and was thereafter ordained in 1996 while serving a mega church in Birmingham, AL.
One of his greatest joys while serving in the local church has been to participate in evangelistic and relief work in East Africa.
Powers has served on the pastoral staff of three churches, including a church plant. Prior to joining NAMB in 2000, Powers worked in the investment industry with Bank of America and a Dallas-based financial planning firm. He holds an undergraduate degree in business from Hardin-Simmons University and a graduate degree from Beeson Divinity, Samford University. Powers is a Certified Church Consultant through Church Central and The Society of Church Consulting.
His current personal activities include orphan ministry in Asia and anti-human trafficking initiatives.
